We would like to
introduce our resident trainer at Golden Eagle Ranch,Devon Jones!
Devon works with the ranch horses as well as outside clients.
Colt starting and tune-ups for older horses are her specialty. We would also
like to introduce, Tawnee Leras, our new assistant trainer. Tawnee has
been active with rodeo/gymkhana and is excited to learn about colt starting fundamentals.
She will be a great asset to our training program!

Devon is a graduate of UC Davis where she received her Masters degree in
Ruminant Nutrition as well as her Bachelors degree in Animal Science. She has
been involved with horses from an early age and is thrilled to be
a part of the training program at Golden Eagle Ranch. Devon enjoys spending time
both in and out of the arena with her riding portfolio including
western pleasure, english pleasure, halter, showmanship, trail,
speed events as well as a considerable amount of cattle/ranch work.

Her training techniques focus on developing a solid foundation through
extensive ground work and handling. By exposing animals to varying situations
(trailering, showing, cattle, outside trails, etc.) as both
weanlings and yearlings, they are better prepared to be started
under saddle at eighteen to twenty-four months of age. Once under
saddle, utmost patience is implemented in order to establish trust
between horse and rider. Each animal is treated as an individual in
order to best match physical and mental ability with future
performance demands.

Aside from training,Devon also values her involvement in the breeding program
at Golden Eagle Ranch. Working with both AQHA and NFQHA registered animals
allows for constant genetic improvement in both breeding stock
maintained at the ranch as well as offspring offered for sale. A
high-quality animal is started with wise breeding decisions and only
further improved upon via training.
